Sr. Level Linguist (Mandarin, Chinese) and Cultural Advisor / Udeid, AB Doha Qatar – TS-SCI

Our Peraton Team is currently seeking a DOD TS/SCI cleared CAT III Mandarin Chinese Linguist and Cultural Advisor. Linguists may be required to complete an annual evaluation and retesting process to determine eligibility for possible extension of services required. Shift work may be required

Duty location is Al Udeid AB, Qatar, Secure US Military Compound.

As our China (Mandarin) Cultural Advisor & Linguist you will have the opportunity to:

• Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on Chinese political, cultural, socio-economic and influential moderate voices within social media environments. SME is required to have an expert understanding of China’s Global economic and political affairs.
• Translate, interpret and analyze oral and written material such as classified reports, data, briefings and conversations. Provide translation in written or oral form.
• Provide assessments, transcription, translation, interpretation, cultural advisement, and media analysis services to ensure actionable data and products are developed and processed quickly and accurately.
• Provide written translations of source texts in one language into another language, as identified above, with the meaning and intent of the original text (Translations)
• Translate: (1) read and comprehend the languages, (2) write comprehensibly in one of the source languages, and (3) choose the equivalent expression in the Source language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source language (referred to as congruity judgment).
• Comprehend both the source language (Mandarin Chinese) and English as spoken and written, (2) speak both of these languages, (3) choose an expression in English that fully conveys and best matches the meaning of the source language, (4) have familiarity with the cultural context of both languages, (5) have knowledge of terminology in specialized fields, (6) research in source (Native) languages and write a comprehensive command level information papers in English.
• On a as needed participate in USCENTCOM, Interagency and Coalitions working groups, and serve as the Operational Cultural advisor expertise.
• Provide foreign language interpretation, translation, transliteration & transcription, document exploitation (DOCEX) services
• Provide written and verbal translation of various types of media from target language to source language while maintaining congruity in judgment.
• Be prepared to work extended workweeks.

Required Qualifications: 

• Must possess a minimum of 8 years with BS/BA, minimum of 6 years with MS/MA.
  • May consider an additional 6 years of relevant experience or Associates degree and 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Degree in Political Science, International Studies, Anthropology, Communication or a related field from an accredited and reputable institution
• Subject Matter Expert in understanding Chinese political, cultural, socio-economic and influential moderate voices within social media environments.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years prior experience working in support of US Armed Forces or US government agencies
• SME shall possess detailed knowledge of the operating environment to include Joint, Combined doctrine as well as host nation (China) laws and regulations
• Must be willing to deploy for periods of 180 - 365 days in support of US Forces (Duty Location Al Udeid, AB, Qatar)
• Must possess excellent listening skills with ability to pay attention to minute details and have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly in the English language.
• Must be comfortable providing presentations and working with small and large groups. 
• US Citizenship with current US Passport with 2 years remaining in validity
• Must have an active DOD Top Secret with SCI eligible clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• A minimum of 4/4/4/ scores or higher in testing scores both in English and a 5/5/5/ in the Mandarin Chinese Dialect
• Experience working with Information Operations/ MISO units
• Native Chinese Heritage
• Proven abilities to provide Objective, Unbiased, & Logical cultural advisement.
