Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, and diverse individuals.

 

This position is fully remote.

The role involves offering assistance in implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT systems. The candidate 
will be responsible for managing the infrastructure of IT systems and overseeing any associated processes.
This includes providing support for day-to-day operations, monitoring, and resolving client issues. They will also
handle second-level problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution. Furthermore, the candidate will provide
support for dispatching system and hardware problems, remaining actively involved in the resolution process.
Effective escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers will also be part
of the responsibilities.

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:

  • Create Chef cookbooks and Ansible playbooks to maintain and automate various parts of infrastructure
  • Provide technical support to Production and development environments
  • Analyze and resolve problems associated with Linux servers, hardware, applications, and software.
  • Complete administrative tasks on RedHat servers
  • Maintain monthly patching cycles for production and non-production servers
  • Utilize AWS EC2 service to provision and maintain
  • Install, test and automate security baselines and vulnerability patches to comply with DISA STIG guidelines
  • User/File management

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years experience or an Associates degree and 7 years of experience or Master's degree and 3 years experience or high school diploma/equivalent and minimum 9 years of experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Proficiency in Linux (Red Hat) and Unix-based systems.
  • Expertise in Ansible with experience creating and managing Ansible playbooks for automating and maintaining infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices and tools specific to Linux systems.
  • Proficiency in Shell Scripting (Bash, YAML).
  • Experience with system monitoring tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner certification.
  • Experience working in a cloud environment.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
