Responsibilities

Peraton Labs is looking for a cleared full-time System Administrator to support day-to-day Information Technology (IT) operations for this organization. The position includes configuration and management of IT assets as well supporting end users. The candidate will be part of a team of system and network engineers performing system administrative functions for the maintenance, testing, upgrading, and troubleshooting of Peraton’s classified and unclassified IT infrastructure. This IT infrastructure consists of devices running Linux and Microsoft Windows, switches, routers, firewall, audio/video conferencing equipment, VoIP phones and other special purpose equipment.

The position requires on-site work in either our Silver Spring, Maryland or Basking Ridge, New Jersey offices with occasional travel to other offices in New Jersey, Maryland and Washington DC areas.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage classified and unclassified IT infrastructure including build, setup and maintain program systems
  • Build, upgrade, refresh, maintain, and effectively troubleshoot firewalls, routers, network switches, Linux and Windows servers and IT services
  • Maintain IT Server Rooms, keep physical server room space organized and safe; perform monthly system patch outside of the normal business hours
  • Respond to user requests for IT support promptly
  • Ensure network and computer infrastructure remain available during production hours
  • Improve data backup solutions, perform regular data backup
  • Identify root-causes of operational issues and process inefficiencies
  • Prepare reports and documentation
  • Install hardware and software as requested by projects
  • Monitor security logs for violations and anomalous events; report information security concerns and problems when necessary
  • Continuously maintain a thorough understanding of all configurations, architecture, installed software, accounts (both Operating System and Application), data flows, ports, protocols, and other relevant data for each IT Systems

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • Degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Security, or Information Technology – or equivalent applied experience.
  • 5+ years of solid working experience as Linux system administrator for both servers and end user devices with specific focus on Ubuntu, Rocky Linux, and Red Hat distributions
  • 2+ years of solid working experience in firewall configuration and administration including security compliance configuration on firewalls. Palo Alto product line of firewalls experience is preferred
  • 2+ years of network administration expertise for maintaining - wiring, changing configurations, adding/changing wiring and connections to ports on switches, debugging, enable or disable switch ports, configure VLAN/VXLAN ports and IP routes
  • 1+ years working experience in the DoD STIG process
  • Experience writing Linux scripts, Python, Perl programming experience is a plus
  • Have in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and networking concepts including solid understanding of well- known services including DNS, DHCP, SSL, IPSec, VPN, digital certificate
  • Well versed in networking commands and utilities, such as arp, netstat, dhclient, dig, ethtool, iperf, iptables, ncat, nmap, nsloopup, route, snort, ssh, traceroute, wget, tcpdump, wireshark, etc.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Windows (desktop and server)
  • Experience in racking serves, perform hardware troubleshooting, repair and maintenance including replacing hard disks or solid state disks in PCs and servers, upgrade memory, and correctly identifying compatible hardware parts
  • In-depth understanding of host virtualization, include working experience with some of the commonly used hypervisors including Hyper-V, QEMU, VirtualBox, VMware
  • Have Gitlab, Docker containers, Kubernetics configuration experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze a problem independently
  • Self-motivated to solve complex problems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Current CompTIA Security+ with CE certification
  • Acitve TS Clearance with ability to obtain SCI
  • US Citizenship

Desired Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience on open source or commercial IDS, IPS, SIEM
  • TS/SCI clearance with polygraph

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
