Responsibilities

The Department of Interior (DOI) CHS III program will be leading the way for Cloud Hosting and Applications Modernization across DOI and its subordinate bureaus. CHS III will facilitate migration of legacy on-premises applications to a modern, secure and scalable multi-cloud platform.  From sensors in active volcanic regions to earthquake detection data, CHS III will be DOI's central cloud processing and data solution.  

 

This position will require regular travel to various sites across the United States to support migrating on-premise data center workloads over to the cloud.  The candidate will be expected to support various cloud-based workloads in AWS that are of differing scale and complexity.  The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing and architecting the migration of on-premises systems to AWS or other Cloud Service Provider.
  • Defining the architecture and end-state of on-premises workloads residing in the cloud.  To be achieved with the following technologies such as, but not limited to:
    • AWS CloudFormation
    • AWS Migration Hub
    • AWS Application Migration Service
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving issues in AWS in minimal time to meet Service Level Agreements
  • Implementing new CI/CD pipelines in AWS using Gitlab, CloudFormation and AWS CodePipeline.
    • Implementing and administering Gitlab Runners
    • Integrating Gitlab Runners with AWS using IAM Roles
  • Architecting data exchange between on-premise workloads and AWS
  • Support the design and implementation of processes to migrate workloads.
  • Meeting with customer stakeholders to assess current on-premise applications/workloads that are candidates to move to the cloud.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 Years with BS/BA, 3 Years with MS/MA
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Willing to travel at least 50% of the time.
  • Candidate must have an Active Public Trust or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must have one of the following certifications or be able to obtain within 90 Days of Hire:
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
    • AWS Certified Developer – Associate

  • 8 Years with BS/BA, 4 Years with MS/MA

  • S3 Tiering rules

  • AWS EC2
  • AWS Service Control Policies
  • AWS Organizations
  • AWS Control Tower
  • AWS Permission Boundaries and how they apply to subordinate accounts
  • Experience with securely integrating disparate services using REST or Queue-Based protocols.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
