Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a highly experienced Red Hat Senior Engineer - Subject Matter Expert to join our team supporting the Special Operations Forces (SOF) Information Environment (SIE) under the SITEC III EOM contract. This role is crucial for maintaining the stability, security, and efficiency of the IT infrastructure supporting USSOCOM's mission. The selected candidate will work onsite at MacDill AFB, providing advanced expertise in Red Hat technologies and ensuring the seamless operation of critical systems.

Key Duties:

  • Red Hat Systems Engineering:
    • Design, implement, and manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability.
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Ansible and Red Hat Satellite for configuration management, patching, and system provisioning.
    • Perform regular updates, patches, and upgrades to Red Hat systems to ensure they are current with the latest security features and firmware.
  • System Security:
    • Implement and enforce security policies and procedures to protect Red Hat systems from vulnerabilities and threats.
    • Monitor system logs and security alerts to identify and mitigate security incidents and ensure compliance with government and DoD regulations.
    • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to maintain the integrity and security of the Red Hat environment.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide tier 3 support for Red Hat system issues, including troubleshooting complex technical problems and coordinating with other IT teams to resolve incidents.
    • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, standard operating procedures, and incident response plans.
    • Assist in the development and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity plans for Red Hat systems.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with network engineers, system administrators, cybersecurity teams, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and operation of Red Hat technologies.
    • Provide training and mentorship to junior system engineers and other IT staff on Red Hat technologies and best practices.
    • Participate in regular meetings, briefings, and discussions with USSOCOM leadership and other stakeholders to provide updates on system status and project progress.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Security Clearance:
    • Active TS clearance or above is required.
  • Education and Experience:
    • Minimum of 12 years of experience in systems administration with at least 5 years focused on Red Hat technologies with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; 10 years experience with MS/MA; 7 years experience with PhD.  
  • Technical Skills:
    • Extensive hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
    • Proficient in using Red Hat Satellite, Ansible, and other automation tools for configuration management and system provisioning.
    • Strong understanding of Linux system administration, including user management, networking, and security.
    • Experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM and VMware.
  • Certifications:
    • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or
    • LPIC-3
    • DoD 8570 AIT Level II Certification
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Work Environment

  • Location: This position is based onsite at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL. Remote or telework options are not available for this role.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
