Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Facilities Operations/Controls Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, OH, in support of the NASA Glenn Engineering and Research Support (GEARS) Contract team. As a major partner of the GEARS team, Peraton is responsible to provide multi-disciplinary engineering services to maintain, enhance and improve the facilities at the NASA John Glenn Research Center Facilities 

In this role, you will work in a dynamic, team-based environment as a member of our facility engineering and design group and will provide System Engineering support to manage operations of the NASA Glenn Research Center Institutional Monitoring Control System (GIMCS). This system includes the existing GRC Energy Management Control System (EMCS), Chiller Plants (North & South), Steam Plant and Fire Alarm Systems which requires engineering support to maintain the system operation. You will meet directly with the NASA customers to review these dynamic requirements and assure expectations are met.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide system software engineering for new and existing subsystems to determine software requirements for Operator Consoles (Insight and Desigo), including program development, debugging and alarm management.
  • Provide controls engineering for the design and support of maintenance and infrastructure improvement projects relative to the GIMCS.
  • Provide support of daily operations of systems including troubleshooting/field investigations as issues arise relating to GIMCS.
  • Perform engineering analysis and studies of system issues, failure analyses, system outage response, and solution development.
  • Perform periodic system condition assessments, hazard analysis, and reliability studies of the various systems.
  • Coordinate with the system managers, operators, and field technicians to adjust necessary sequence for optimal GIMCS system performance
  • Coordinate with the NASA GRC PSS in the instance of signals cross over between the EMCS and Fire Alarm System which is Edwards EST3. However, we are NOT responsible to design or modify any GRC EST3 Fire Alarm System.
  • Provide support for system startups including development of Integrated System Test (IST) plans, verification of operating check sheets, and support during the implementation of the project.
  • Provide support as required to the system admin and system manager on IT security assessment activities.
  • Provide support for GIMCS RCM and CBM activities such as setting trending points for monitoring and reports.
  • Participate in technical meetings to isolate performance issues, develop procedures for corrective action, and make recommendations for modifications
  • Provide documented procedures for all technical aspects of assigned work
  • Provide coordination and oversight of electrical construction activities in the field

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Systems Engineering or Engineering Technology degree with 5+ years of directly related applicable experience; without a degree, 9+ years of directly related experience and technical training may be considered
  • 5-7 years of engineering facility systems and controls
  • Experience in building Automation Controls such as HVAC system operation of sequence, lighting and occupancy sensors controls, etc.
  • Experience in Chiller Plant Controls and Cooling Towers
  • Experience in building operations, alarm management & scheduling
  • Experience using AutoCAD design software (current version is AutoCAD 2019)
  • Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Computer programming and experience related to distributed controls systems. (GIMCS uses Siemens Building Automation System)
  • Experience in Siemens Insight and Desigo design and programming, and PXCM controllers/PPCL programming with Network Interface.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley Control System and the interface to Siemens
  • Communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Experience in multiple engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical and System Software Controls

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
