Responsibilities

The Department of Interior (DOI) CHS III program will be leading the way for Cloud Hosting and Applications Modernization across DOI and its subordinate bureaus. CHS III will facilitate migration of legacy on-premises applications to a modern, secure and scalable multi-cloud platformFrom sensors in active volcanic regions to earthquake detection data, CHS III will be DOI's central cloud processing and data solution. 

 

Designs and plans network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options. Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network. Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

 

The Candidate will be expected to be familiar with integrations between on-premises and cloud-based networking endpoints.  Experience with creation of network schematics, diagrams and specifications is preferred.  Experience integrating and combining various different AWS services together (for example,  AWS Cloudwatch Alarm integration with SNS/SQS) is preferred.

 

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen
  • Candidate must have an Active Public Trust or the Ability to Obtain one is required
  • The candidate should have at least one of the following certifications or must be able to attain one within 90 Days: 
  • CCNA
  • Comptia Network+
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate
  • AWS Solutions Architect – Associate

Preferred Qualifications

 

Preferred experience with two or more of the following AWS Technologies: 

  • Security Group Administration
  • NACL
  • VPC
  • S3
  • AWS Direct Connect
  • EventBridge
  • Kinesis Data Streams / Data Firehose

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
