As a Journeyman Software Engineer, you’ll work with the U.S. Space Force to develop and rapidly deploy the next generation of resilient Missile Warning (MW), Tactical Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (TISR), and Environmental Monitoring (EM) capabilities to deter attacks and provide critical information to our warfighters to defeat our enemies in battle. The Journeyman Software Engineer will be responsible for the following but not limited to:

  • Support the Government sustainment software lead or appropriate Government project lead in software sustainment activities.
  • Provide technical support to sustainment software deliveries.
  • Support technical, status, and scheduling meetings; assess testing requirements and impacts to operations and training; and provide operations installation recommendations for all sustainment software deliveries.
  • Develop and maintain a Government repository for all delivered ground and space operational software baseline versions
  • Collect all delivered ground and space operational software baseline versions from each organization in order to populate the Government repository.
  • Report all recommendations to the Government sustainment software lead or appropriate Government project lead.
  • Assess all ground software deficiency reports identified to operations deficiency reporting boards and provide technical recommendations on category, priority, and impacts to operations.
  • Monitor and analyze prime development contractor flight software development activities and provide technical assessments of suitability to meet operational requirements.
  • Assess all flight software deficiency reports identified to operations deficiency reporting boards and provide technical recommendations on category, priority, and impacts to operations.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Must have an active/current Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, or equivalent technical discipline with five (5) – seven (7) years of relevant experience; Master's degree and three (3) – five (5) years of relevant experience; PhD and zero experience – two (2) years of relevant experience; High-school Diploma/GED and nine (9+) years of relevant experience in lieu of a completed degree
  • Minimum of three (3+) years of experience with software engineering for space-related (space, ground, software, hardware system) Major Defense Acquisition Programs
  • Experience with agile software development processes integrating data from digital engineering (DE) reference models with agile management tools to provide traceability between user stories, requirements, and DE architecture views
  • Experience with software engineering for operational systems, including comprehending development life cycles
  • Knowledge of developing software architecture and implementing design
  • Ability to analyze software development activities and provide technical assessments of suitability to meet operational requirements
  • Ability to communicate and establish collaborative relationships with government clients, Federally Funded Research and Developmental Centers (FFRDC), and associate contractor teammates to achieve program goals
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Desired qualifications:

  • A current TS/SCI security clearance
  • Master’s degree in an engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent technical discipline
  • Experience supporting space-based remote sensing systems
  • Experience in developing with C# in Visual Studio or another object–oriented programming language
  • Experience in designing and interfacing with SQL databases, including MySQL
  • Experience with prototyping and rapid development
  • Knowledge of cryptographic and security algorithms

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
