Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking Summer 2024 Systems Engineer Interns to join our Internal Research & Development (IRAD) program which will be conducted in our Herndon, VA or Blacksburg, VA offices or remotely.

 

Join our Technology and Engineering Software Delivery Center and support exciting, advanced research projects in areas such as communications, space, cybersecurity, defense, health, and mobile.  You’ll have the opportunity to work in a collaborative, supportive environment with our full-time staff, allowing you to grow your skills and your career while building experience in a variety of different projects and domains.  You’ll work in an Agile software development environment supporting areas such as requirements/story development, IT integration, cloud computing, DevSecOps, and automated testing.  You’ll also get the chance to obtain certifications in leading technologies to enhance your skills, such as Amazon Web Services.

 

Summer internships are mostly remote, work-from-home positions, but there will be opportunities for in-office experiences for interns residing in Northern VA or Southwestern VA. We ask that each intern be available to work the duration of the ten weeks (June to August) and commit to working a minimum of 35-40 hours per week. This program is geared toward technical college students, actively enrolled at a four-year university, who will be rising into their junior or senior years. However, strong underclassmen may be considered if they have declared their major and have completed qualified coursework.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Have completed progress toward a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, information systems, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with one or more object-oriented or scripting programming languages and exposure to software engineering processes.
  • Hands-on engineering experience through coursework and/or prior internships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies and concepts.
  • Self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3.0 and above GPA.
  • Exposure to Agile software development processes.
  • Exposure to Windows and Linux operating systems, database technologies, web application. servers, and/or automated testing tools.
  • Familiarity with application or network installations, configuration, and/or administration.
  • Exposure to cloud computing technologies.

Target Salary Range

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical pay for this position based on experience and other factors.
