Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a skilled Mid-level Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our growing team! The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing malfunctions and repairs, rebuilding and maintaining power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools. Day-to-day duties and responsibilities include operating and inspecting machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Will be responsible for dismantling and reassembling equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and sub-assemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. Welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. At the most senior level has oversight over other mechanics' production and provides technical support as needed. The employee may frequently be required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Operates the aerostat launch/recovery control systems including their back-up systems.
  • Directs and performs corrective and preventive activities on the aerostat pressure and control subsystems, power subsystems, mechanical and hydraulic subsystems, aerostat hardware and rigging, tether subsystem, and aerostat envelope.
  • Performs operation and maintenance of enclosed mooring system and winch vehicles, site power generators, standard motor vehicles, special man lift vehicles, and forklifts.
  • May be assigned Vehicle Maintenance Officer (VMO) duties.
  • Directs and performs aerostat system preflight and post-flight checks and aerostat system inspections as required.
  • Directs and performs operations and maintenance of compressed-gas equipment, including helium transfers to the aerostat for inflation and replenishment purposes.
  • Directs and performs maintenance on aerostat engine generator sets.
  • Coordinates all resupply and repair logistics activities for aerostat and mechanical subsystems.
  • Trains and certifies other personnel in selected aerostat system procedures and on the proper operation of all aerostat special purpose vehicles (e.g., 90-150 foot Hi-Rangers, self-propelled aerial platforms, forklifts).
  • May be assigned Quality Control duties as required.
  • Directs and performs corrosion control and site facilities maintenance.
  • Functions as a key member of the flight crew for inflation, deflation, launch, recovery, and in-flight activities.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen able to Obtain and Maintain a Public Trust security clearance 
  • High school diploma/equivalent and 3-5 years' of mechanical maintenance experience 
  • Possess a valid U.S. Driver’s license.
  • Understand, speak, read and write English fluently.
  • Are able to visually distinguish colors.
  • Have the ability to perform the described duties while: walking, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling, reaching, lifting, sitting, and squatting.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Work may require walking, standing, sitting and working in confined spaces or at high elevations for extended periods of time.
  • Have experience with special purpose vehicles 
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems 
  • Have a background in quality control

Target Salary Range

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical pay for this position based on experience and other factors.
