Responsibilities

This position is an integral member of the Peraton Labs information technology team with responsibilities to maintain information systems and their appropriate security posture. This individual shall have relevant working experience to perform Linux and Microsoft Windows system administration tasks and solid knowledge to manage the security aspects of an information system.

 

This position requires full time on-site work in the Silver Spring, Maryland office.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Prepare and maintain STIG’ed images for Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems
  • STIG new systems and apply best practice security configuration on computers, servers, and network equipment
  • Perform system and anti-virus tool updates regularly
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot hardware, networking devices and software as directed
  • Implement physical controls such as hardware and network seals/locks, removable disks, disable USB ports, ensure no wireless transmission mechanism on systems
  • Physically setup, cable, and power computers in classified and unclassified spaces for new programs or new computer additions; Activate network ports including patch network when needed; submit firewall rule change requests
  • Devise information system backup mechanism for program’s specific requirements; perform system/date backup and archive logs according to security plan; exercise system and data recovery procedures regularly
  • Create custom solution or provide commercial tool recommendations to automate audits procedures where SCAP Compliant Checker lacks proper functions to support. Examples include automated log rotation, mechanism to alert audit process failures, or scripts to detect inactive accounts.
  • Step in for ISSM to perform audit tasks as needed
  • Execute approved procedures for sanitizing and releasing system components and media
  • Maintain a working knowledge of system functions, security policies, technical security safeguards, and operational security measures.
  • Complete required trainings timely

 

Qualifications

The candidate must have the following qualification:

  • BS and 8-10 years, MS and 6-8 years, or Ph.D and 3-5 years 
  • Degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Security, or Information Technology – or equivalent applied experience
  • Current CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Must have 3+ years of hands-on experience in performing Linux system administration tasks including installing, configuring and troubleshooting Linux information systems; Additional Microsoft Windows system administration experience is highly desirable
  • Experience in installing and troubleshooting Linux device drivers
  • At least 1 year of scripting experience in Unix shell
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols and concepts, such as DNS, DHCP, SSL, VPN, and TCP/IP
  • Basic network administration expertise for maintaining including wiring, changing configurations, adding/changing wiring, and connections to ports on switches, debugging, enable or disable switch ports, configure VLAN/VXLAN ports and IP routes
  • Hands-on experience in computer hardware maintenance, troubleshooting and repair (desktop and server) – examples include replace hard disk or solid-state disk, upgrade memory, correctly identifying compatible hardware parts
  • Have working experience in QEMU, KVM and/or VirtualBox virtualization solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work successfully with limited supervision
  • Self-motivated to solve complex problems; ability to troubleshoot and analyze a problem independently
  • U.S. Citizenship with an active TS clearance

Highly Desirable skills:

  • Gitlab and Docker containers configuration experience
  • Perl or Python programming experience

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
