Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a motivated System Engineer - Journeyman at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB), CA to support operations, maintenance, and sustainment activities associated with the Eastern/Western Range Operational Communications Services (EWOCS) Contract. 

 

The System Engineer will be responsible for the following but not limited to:

Using a holistic approach, this position designs, develops, evaluates, and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products throughout their life cycle. Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics. Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.

 

Establish and coordinate development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall product development. Designs interfaces and brings system elements together, so they work as a whole. Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures. Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements. Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower-level detailed requirements. Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation. Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures. Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Support all lifecycle engineering activities associated with EWOCS work scope, including new project Task Orders
  • Participate in technical tabletops and readiness reviews related to EWOCS work scope
  • Develop technical documentation related to EWOCS work scope
  • Act as interface to the government and contract partners for recurring status and technical interchange meetings
  • Provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions including materials, manpower and time necessary
  • Assist other department engineers in creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrating them to other members of the team and the customer
  • Monitor progress of initiatives
  • Participate in system testing (including operational, certification, and acceptance testing) to ensure systems are fully operational
  • Provide support for troubleshooting and corrective actions for infrastructure and hardware/failures and perform verification and checkout following corrective actions
  • Provide GMD operational support, launch operations support for communication systems within the MDA program
  • Performs other duties and assignments as required

 

**Work hours are 40 hours per week, M-F. In order to respond to changing circumstances, applicants must be willing to remain flexible with their work schedule. Flexibility includes occasional weekend work if customer requires it, minimal travel <10%**

Qualifications

Required Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent engineering experience, and two (2+) years of Systems Engineering experience, or Masters Degree and no experience, or High School Diploma and eight (8+) years of equivalent engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Valid and current Security + Certification
  • Proficient using MS Office suite of applications to generate schedules, conceptual drawings and briefing charts
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures
  • Professional experience and a high-level understanding of working with various operating systems and their implications
  • Ability to work together with teams from several departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent engineering experience, and four (4) years of Systems Engineering experience, or Master’s Degree and two (2) years of relevant experience, or High School Diploma and 10 years of equivalent engineering experience
  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification
  • Familiarity with DOORS database

Target Salary Range

$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
