Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Jr.-Mid level LINUX Red Hat Systems Administrator to provide Microsoft Windows administration services, infrastructure development services, anomaly resolution on multiple systems, and Tier 1 help desk support. The position is located at the White Sands Complex in Las Cruces, NM  

 

As prime contractor on the Peraton Space Exploration Networks Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment, and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks.  In this position, you will become part of NASA’s return to the moon, support new earth and space science missions, and launch vehicles. You will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements. 

 

This position is responsible for the following: 

  • Provide Tier 1 help desk support for a Microsoft Windows domain environment encompassing approximately 500 servers, workstations, and printers.
  • Provides operational support for any additional mission critical system.
  • Support of an operation center during day shift. On call support during off-hours (nights/weekends) may be necessary. 
  • Provide Microsoft Windows System Administration support (peripheral/user/application OS Administration) to operational systems.
  • Updates existing incident and service requests in the Comprehensive Discrepancy System.
  • Interacts with Engineering Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to restore service and/or identify and correct system problems.
  • Performs system back-ups, restores systems from back-ups.
  • Perform IT security remediation, including OS patching, system log review, and any other applicable security updates. 
  • Monitors network and system activity and troubleshoots outages.
  • Executes procedures in a sequential order to maintain system operations.
  • Interacts with customers with help desk support and with writing service tickets and briefing materials.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or other related science and 2 years relative experience; without a degree, 8 years of related experience is allowable (an Associate degree may substitute for 2 years of experience).
  • 2 years’ experience working with Microsoft Windows Systems.
  • 2 years’ experience MS Windows and Red Hat Linux administration
  • 2 years’ experience working with cyber (IT) security concepts.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter. In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship. 

Desired Experience:

  • Completed Security + certification.
  • Experience, or ability to learn in a large scale, dynamic environment requiring immediate problem response.
  • Prior experience with:
    • troubleshooting and repair of computer related hardware (Servers, workstations, printers).
    • difficult root cause analysis.
    • performing credentialed scans utilizing Tenable Nessus Pro Suite.
  • Solaris or HP-UX not required, but a plus. 
  • Active Secret security clearance.

Target Salary Range

$39,000 - $62,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
