Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support a critical mission of consequence within our Cyber Mission Business Unit in Annapolis Junction, MD.  In this position you will design and plan network communications systems; provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture; conduct cost/benefit analysis and provide specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. You will conduct testing of network design; be responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options; plan implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network; advise network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations; maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.; evaluate and report on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network; and be assigned lead responsibility for the management of the systems administration function, and oversight of associated staff.

  • Perform network services from network design through implementation, maintenance, and upgrading of existing networks;
  • Support multi-platform, multi-system network solutions;
  • Provision and sustain network infrastructures;
  • Diagnose network performance shortcomings and design and implement performance improvements;
  • Develop, operate, and manage networks in a secure PKI, IPSEC, or VPN enabled environment;
  • Implement routing protocols, QOS, traffic shaping and policing on the network;
  • Research and recommend advanced technologies such as software defined networking and infrastructure as code;
  • Analyze design, specifications, and related documents;
  • Performs general LAN/CAN/WAN administration, optimizing end-to-end system performance;
  • Manage assigned network communications system projects ensuring successful completion;
  • Coordinates with all responsible users and sites to resolve network or system incidents;
  • Translate business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, CAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs and orders;
  • Perform engineering analysis of alternatives in support of strategic modernization efforts;
  • Minimize network latency and maximize data throughput through design analysis and network performance monitoring tools;
  • Provide input to the design of the organization's network and mission architecture;
  • Design solutions, integrate, configure, deploy, test and provide ongoing maintenance for numerous types of network devices, interfaces and methodologies;
  • Gather needed data to specify system/component performance and interface requirements;
  • Implement specific network solutions to support server requirements to include load-balancing, VPN’s, firewall contexts, Traffic Shaping Voice over IP (VoIP), GRE Tunneling, IP Security (IPSec), IP Encryption, Media over IP (MoIP), and network address translation (NAT) where appropriate;
  • Configure and maintain organization's network diagrams and accreditations;
  • Oversee the support to all network equipment;
  • Develop designs of the organization's network and mission architecture to meet new partner requirements;
  • Manage assigned tasks and provide guidance to junior Network Engineers;
  • Integrate hardware and software to satisfy ISO 9000 requirements and other DoD/IC regulations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline.
  • Twenty (20) years of relevant professional experience providing Network Engineering support, solution development and project management. Five (5) additional years of relevant professional experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Information Assurance Technical (IAT) level II baseline certification as defined by DoD 8570.01-M is required
  • Active TS SCI security clearance with a current polygraph is required

Desired Skills:

  • Expert Network Engineer with CCNA, Cisco ACI, SDN. Strong Linux, scripting skills (Bash, Python), Cloud/Virtualization, Orchestration
  • Experience with Splunk, DevOps tools

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
