The Peraton facility located in Princess Anne, Maryland is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the highly competent Princess Anne Mechanical Engineering team delivering world class solutions to a variety of DOD institutions.  This position directly reports to the Princess Anne Mechanical Engineering Manager.  The Mechanical Engineering group’s primary responsibilities involve the design and analysis of suborbital rocket class launch vehicle mechanical structures and systems, direction and coordination of activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, qualification testing, installation, and servicing of suborbital rocket mechanical structures and systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop, design, and analyze suborbital rocket mechanical structures, components, and equipment applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering to fulfill mission requirements.
  • Manage Mass Properties and Gravimetrics of concepts, designs, and actual measurements of flight hardware.
  • Create Design and Manufacturing Documentation/Drawings and 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
  • Submit documentation to Production Planning and provide oversight of fabrication in the Peraton Princess Anne Machine Shop and to Mechanical Technicians.
  • Direct and coordinate activities involved in assembly, operation, problem resolution, and repair of sounding rocket mechanical structures and systems; and create required processes and procedures.
  • Support and plan for the testing of rocket components, sub-assemblies, and full payloads which includes test plans and loads, oversight of testing, validation of new designs, and interpreting results.
  • Create documentation for design and testing, and present to a panel of peers and customers for review.
  • Serve as lead mechanical engineer for rocket missions and other program or project efforts.
  • Brief customers on technical development projects and negotiate design modification as needed.
  • Support the mission manager in planning and tracking cost and schedule requirements.
  • Provide support for field operations as needed, either remotely or in the field.
  • Multitask on numerous projects & missions at different levels of development, (design, fabrication, testing, etc).
  • Management of mechanical engineering assignments, and the development of new products and engineering specifications for applicable projects.
  • Work within the bounds of the Peraton Princess Anne engineering processes to provide world class quality designs and products to our customers.
  • Develop and grow as a leader through honesty, effort, responsibility, and organization.
  • Travel up to 20% per year to various customer work sites globally.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:         

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
  • Two or more years of Experience with mechanical design
  • The ability to receive and maintain a Secret Clearance is required for this position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated, self-starter, quick learner, but willing to seek advice from peers when necessary; working knowledge of common design and analysis tools such as Solidworks CAD, FEA and other software for mathematical computation. Awareness of common manufacturing practices and techniques (design for manufacturing) is desired, including metal and composite structures. Structural, Dynamic, and/or thermal analysis knowledge is a plus.

Target Salary Range

$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
