Information Technology (IT) Security Lead / Space Programs

Peraton is looking for an Information Technology (IT) Security Lead who will be responsible for the oversight and management of a team of Information System Security Officers, Information System Security Engineers, as well as provide subject matter expertise and insight to the team. The position is located at the NASA White Sands Complex (WSC) in Las Cruces, NM.

Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA’s orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.

This position will be responsible for: 

• Direct and monitor the daily activities of the IT Security team.
• Present and deliver contractual deliverables to NASA on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, both orally and in writing.
• Triage, assign, track, and monitor IT Security risk mitigation tasks to the IT Security team and report progress to the IT Security Senior Manager.
• Create, manage, and maintain HR documentation for all direct reports, including training certifications, yearly goals, and performance improvement plans.
• Closely work with the IT & Network Engineering Lead to formulate plans of action for identified system vulnerabilities.
• Ensure the monitoring of IT Security reporting software programs daily to identify system vulnerabilities and establish remediation plans with direct reports.
• Serve as an audit and/or compliance lead for the IT Security group.
• Any other duty as assigned by the IT Security Senior Manager.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or other related science and 8+ years of experience.
  • In lieu of degree, 12+ years of related experience is allowable (an Associate degree may substitute for 2 years of experience).
• 3+ years’ experience in IT administration and networking related field. 
• 5+ years’ experience in management or leadership of employees
• 5+ years’ experience working with cyber (IT) security concepts.
• Prior supervisory experience.
• Security Clearance - This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed Security +, CISSP or CASP certification
• Experience, or ability to learn in a large scale, dynamic environment requiring immediate problem response.
• Experience in Project or Task Management.
• Experience in performing credentialed scans utilizing Tenable Nessus Pro Suite.
• Experience or solid understanding of project and/or operations management processes
• Provide subject matter expertise in the area of general IT security concepts and best practices to direct reports, as well as project management.
• Prior MS Windows system administration experience
• Prior Red Hat Enterprise (RHEL) system administration experience
• Experience with:
  • root cause analysis
  • VMWare product suite
  • Splunk SIEM tool
  • Server monitoring, and event alert response
  • System event log configuration
  • cloud-based management
• Basic knowledge of packet routing, and firewall maintenance
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
