Space Systems Operations Flight Controller

Peraton is seeking a mid-level Space Systems Operations Flight Controller in Pasadena, CA, supporting our NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) customer. This is a full-time technical role, where you would support 2nd shift (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM PST) for 4 days, then 4 days off, (shifting by one day each week), and could include weekends and holidays. Position may allow for some telework, but must be local to the site.

 

Peraton provides technical expertise for JPL which supports enabling planetary and science missions for NASA and unique missions for the DOD, developing and executing complex, and cutting-edge technology missions. Our staff are located in Pasadena, CA, where we design and analyze hardware, and support integration and test at JPL. Our engineers and technician staff support the missions from concept, through development, launch and mission operations. Peraton also supports well established aerospace companies by providing experienced personnel to supplement their projects.

 

In this position, you will report to the Pasadena manager in providing flight control of the NEOWISE mission as well as instrument monitoring for Jason-3. You will work independently and within a team environment, working with operational team members and the mission planning and sequencing team to upload commands and download data, and reporting on the conditions of that data. The ideal candidate will have a complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field of mission operations for satellites.

 

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

• Provide real-time flight operations for the NEOWISE and Jason-3 missions
• Assure precision of all commands sent to the NEOWISE spacecraft
• Analyze real-time satellite telemetry and report alarms and anomalies
• Monitor ground system to ensure optimal health of all missions under flight control team care
• Ensure remote ground station viability

Utilize TDRSS system for the NEOWISE mission.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

• High School Diploma with a minimum of 5+ years of related professional work experience
• Experience supporting flight operations of satellite missions
• Experience with direct customer support, making and giving presentations, and attending customer meetings
• Experience with MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel
• Must be willing to support 2nd shift work (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM PST), including evenings, weekends, and may include holidays
• Ability to obtain NASA agency clearance, which requires a U.S. Citizen background investigation.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE: 

• Willing to learn how to conduct short and long-term telemetry modeling.
• Maintenance of existing operations procedures, keeping up-to-date to also include lessons learned from real-time performance.
• Developing new procedures.
• Familiarity with Remote Ground Stations, Mission Planning Systems, and Satellite Operations
• Familiarity with Mission Operations Centers architectures and interfaces.
• Familiarity with Ground Control Planning / Scheduling software
• Previous experience supporting NASA or JPL

Salary Minimum: $40,000
Salary Mid: $80,000
Salary Maximum: $100,000
