Java Software Engineer

What you’ll do: 

As a Software Engineer on our team, you will:  

• Design, code, and deploy new functionality and fixes for a Java-based application.  
• Work directly with application users to respond to complex analytic taskings.  
• Interface with other technical teams to implement improved data sharing mechanisms.  
• Update developer and system administration documentation.  
• Troubleshoot data and application issues.  

This Software Engineer position is on a small team that that offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks according to an individual’s areas of interest and expertise. Typical tasks might include full-stack development, database queries, and COTS product upgrades. Our team works directly with our application users, so the changes we make are usually in direct response to their needs and have a meaningful, immediate impact on mission.  

We work a standard 40-hour work week from Monday through Friday, and we strive to find an arrival and departure schedule that works for both the employee and the customer. Remote work is not permitted.  

Travel is possible but very rarely required and would primarily occur in the local Washington D.C. area.  

Required qualifications:

• Clearance: Top Secret/SCI with Poly (Active) 

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or other related technical discipline. (Industry-recognized certifications or five additional years of relevant work experience in technical support will be considered in lieu of a degree.) 

• Experience: Eight to ten years of relevant experience, including four years of experience in the following areas: 

• Developing Java applications.  
• Working with large relational databases.  
• Operating and maintaining web-based applications.   
• Training non-technical personnel on application capabilities.  
• Providing customer support and technical documentation. 

• Skills: 

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues. 

Desired qualifications:  

• Experience 

• Familiarity with Spring, Hibernate, or similar frameworks.  
• Familiarity with federal information security requirements.  
• Familiarity with information management systems used by the customer and IC, including but not limited to Intelink, NGT, Intellipedia, GoogleEarth, IntelMapper, and Arc View.  
• Familiarity with geospatial databases and/or ArcGIS. 

• Skills 

• Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
